Lumi Exhibition Hiitomuseo/Ski museum
L.U.M.I. (S.N.O.W.) — Finnish Ski Museum, Lahti
Multisensory exhibition, 2025–2029
Working with my partner Cyrienne, I designed and built the physical elements of this exhibition, and designed all of the interactions and surfaces visitors move through, in close collaboration with the museum's own team.
Drawing on Tuija Laine's writing and an archive of schoolchildren's own accounts of winter and snow, the exhibition is guided by two characters, Nippy Frostling and Snowfang the Winterhound, and told through touch, sound and play rather than static display. Underneath the nostalgia sits a quieter point about how snow itself is changing, and what that means for the next generation growing up with less of it.
Since opening in February 2025 the exhibition has more than doubled the museum's visitor numbers and is booked to run until 2029, the same year Lahti City Museums, of which the Ski Museum is part, won Finland's Museum of the Year.
