Brief

How can we empathize with the experience of the visually impaired through design?

this collaborative project was initially an open brief but was later defined as the brief above.

In the UK, 360,000 people

are registered as blind or

partially sighted

(285M worldwide)

we visited the RNIB which is the leading visual impairment charity to talk about current products that assisted the visually impaired and to gain a broader knowledge of the subject. There we were assisted by Gary who was keen to demon-straight their range of tactile and vocal products that assist in tasks that we would consider trivial he also stated that.

“Inclusive design is beneficial for everyone.”

Workshop

Was this design inclusive?

the most polarising result from this was not only the public feedback but more so how wrong we were to think of visual impairment as comparable to a blindfold when in reality is far more diverse…

Project proposal

An interactive installation showing iconic artwork through the lens of visual impairment conditions creates an educational, empathetic experience.
